Robbie - Testimonials

Since I started personal training with Robbie two years ago I’ve achieved goals that I never imagined I would. For 20 years I did little exercise, other than walking, and I constantly battled with my weight. Now in my 40s I’ve run a fell race, completed the Snowdon15 peaks hiking challenge and I’ve even entered a strongman competition! With Robbie's help, as well as being stronger and fitter than ever before, I’ve finally managed to keep my weight down. In fact I lost 17 inches from my body measurements within 4 months of starting personal training. Robbie helps me to believe in myself and my own ability. He stops me being negative and giving up by encouraging me to set goals and push myself to reach them. Training sessions can be really exhausting, but the buzz I get from knowing I've worked hard is fantastic, especially when I achieve a goal that I thought was out of reach. I couldn't have done what I have without Robbie's constant support and motivation.

Robbie - About Me

I have been working in the sports and leisure industry for over 16 years. I started my career as an assistant golf professional working at Rhuddlan golf club. I held this position for over 4 years and as my coaching here involved both one to one sessions and group classes it helped me develop as a trainer. My duties also included managing the pro shop and consequently dealing with large numbers of the public.

Unfortunately this all came to an end because of my rather overindulging lifestyle and my consequent lack of desire to play the game.

Due to my excessive lifestyle my weight had bloomed to a massive 23 stones and my eating, drinking and smoking were totally out of control.

My daily diet consisted of:

  • Fizzy drinks 2 large bacon and egg toasties and chocolate bars for breakfast
  • Chips, pies, mushy peas and large quantise of bread for lunch
  • 16 pints of bitter large Indian takeaway and probable a kebab and chickwich sandwich for tea, and most likely smoked over 40 cigarettes per day

Even though I ate and drank stupidly I did continue to enjoy weight training and this is how I finally turned my life around and is why today I can emphasise and understand other people’s struggles and issues.

I asked for a job at my local fitness centre which was then Melyd squash club. The club was then taken over by Johnny Hughes and Tri fitness emerged. I can honestly say my complete lifestyle changed from this point as I was surrounded by positive, goal setting people who loved being fit for life.

I was asked if I would like to do a weight lifting course and start coaching people in the gym and I jumped at the opportunity

During this time my weight had dropped to 21 stones. A friend of mine asked if I would like to go travelling with him across America. Travelling and the experiences gained again changed my out look on life. Every town we travelled to we always went to a gym and by the time I came home I had lost a couple more stones.

Down to 19 stones and back home I decided to further my gym course by doing a Sports Science Therapy course which took 2 years to complete and which during this time I lost another 2 stones. I then started a Sports Massage course and made personal training my full time career.

On a personal level I continued to lose weight and had got down to 17 stones. In 2001 I decided to go and work for the Royal Caribbean cruising around the Bahamas. I was the only sports massage on ship and had a very successful contract but unfortunately my old traits came back to haunt me and my weight ballooned back to nearly 19 stones.

Ten years on my weight is now very much undercontrol , i am now 15 stones and probable as fit as i have ever been . Over the last few years i have ran half marathons completed fell races and help raise money for local charities by organiseing and completing the snowdona 15 peak challange .

I am now the manager at Saints . I do over 10 classes a week and still really enjoy personal training .

To achieve your goals i can now safely say .If you dont change you lifestyle you won't change a thing .
